Answers to the questions we hear most about waterproof laminate flooring — what it is, where it works, how to install it, and how to keep it looking right.
About waterproof laminate flooring
What is waterproof laminate flooring?
Waterproof laminate flooring is built on a dense core board sealed on every side, so water can’t soak in, swell the planks, or warp the floor. Unlike traditional laminate, which absorbs water through its core and edges, AquaProof is waterproof from the core out — not just coated on the surface.
Is AquaProof really 100% waterproof?
Yes. The core board itself won’t absorb water, swell, or warp, no matter how long surface water sits on it. We tested an AquaProof plank against a traditional laminate plank in the same standing water and filmed the result — you can watch it on our water test page.
What’s the difference between waterproof and water-resistant flooring?
Water-resistant flooring survives a spill you wipe up quickly. Waterproof flooring survives the spill you didn’t see. Water-resistant laminate buys you minutes before damage starts; waterproof laminate doesn’t care how long the water sits there.
How is waterproof laminate different from vinyl plank (LVP)?
Both are waterproof, but laminate has a harder, denser surface that better resists dents and scratches, and its embossed texture reads more like real hardwood underfoot. Vinyl is softer and slightly quieter. AquaProof uses an AC4 wear layer rated for heavy residential and light commercial traffic.
What is embossed-in-register (EIR) texture?
Embossed-in-register means the surface grain is physically pressed to line up with the wood pattern printed beneath it. Run your hand across the plank and the texture follows the grain you’re looking at. It’s the detail that separates a convincing floor from an obvious one.
Where you can install it
Can I install waterproof laminate in a bathroom?
Yes. Bathrooms are exactly what AquaProof was built for. The waterproof core handles humidity, splashes, and puddles that would destroy traditional laminate. Use the recommended perimeter expansion gap and seal edges around tubs and toilets per the installation guide.
Can waterproof laminate go in a basement?
Yes. AquaProof floats over concrete slabs with its attached underlayment, and the waterproof core handles below-grade moisture that ruins ordinary flooring. It’s one of the most common uses for waterproof laminate.
Is it good for kitchens?
Kitchens are one of the best applications. Dropped ice cubes, dishwasher drips, and sink splash are non-events on a waterproof core, and the NanoTek finish resists the scratches and stains that come with a high-traffic room.
Is AquaProof good for laundry rooms and mudrooms?
Yes. Laundry rooms, mudrooms, and entryways combine moisture with heavy foot traffic and grit — the AC4 wear layer and waterproof core handle both. These rooms used to be tile-only territory.
Is waterproof laminate pet-friendly?
Yes. Pet accidents won’t soak into the core or stain the surface, and the AC4 wear layer resists claw scratches better than softer vinyl or traditional hardwood. Wipe spills up and the floor is unaffected.
Can AquaProof be used in commercial spaces?
AquaProof carries an AC4 / Class 32 rating, which covers heavy residential and light commercial use — offices, boutiques, and similar spaces. For heavy commercial traffic, talk to an authorized dealer about the right specification.
Where should I not install waterproof laminate?
Waterproof laminate handles surface water, not permanent submersion. Avoid areas with standing water that never drains, outdoor or unenclosed spaces, saunas, and rooms with extreme temperature swings. For those, tile is the better choice.
Installation
Can I install AquaProof myself?
Yes. AquaProof uses Uniclic angle-angle locking that clicks together without glue or nails, and floats over most existing subfloors. Most rooms are a weekend project with basic tools. Step-by-step guides for every locking system are on our Resources page, in English and Spanish.
Do I need to buy underlayment separately?
No. Every AquaProof plank has a 2mm premium foam underlayment already attached. That’s one less layer to buy and install, and it adds cushioning, sound reduction, and a moisture buffer underneath.
Can it be installed over concrete or existing flooring?
Yes. AquaProof is a floating floor, so it installs over concrete slabs and most existing hard-surface floors without glue or nails, as long as the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Check the installation guide for subfloor requirements.
Care and maintenance
How do I clean waterproof laminate flooring?
Sweep or vacuum regularly, and damp-mop with a mild floor cleaner when needed. Skip wax, polish, and abrasive cleaners. The NanoTek finish keeps most messes on the surface, so cleanup is usually a wipe rather than a project.
Can I use a steam mop on AquaProof?
No. Steam mops are not recommended on laminate flooring, including waterproof laminate — forced steam can work into seams over time. A damp mop with a mild cleaner is all the floor needs. See the full care guide on our Resources page.
Will it scratch?
AquaProof’s NanoTek finish and AC4 / Class 32 wear layer resist scuffs and scratches from daily traffic, pets, and furniture. No floor is scratch-proof — use felt pads under furniture legs and mats at entryways to keep grit off the surface.
Samples, buying, and warranty
How do I get a sample?
Order free samples of any AquaProof color directly from our website. A screen can show you the color but not the texture, and definitely not how it looks in your light — so we send samples free for exactly that reason.
Where can I buy AquaProof flooring?
AquaProof is sold through a network of authorized dealers and distributors rather than directly through this website. Contact us and we’ll connect you with the authorized dealer serving your area for pricing and availability.
Are all colors available everywhere?
No. Our collections and available colors vary by region because AquaProof is distributed through regional partners. Our collection pages show what’s stocked near you, and availability is confirmed by your local dealer.
Does AquaProof come with a warranty?
Yes. Written warranty documents for every collection are available on our Resources page, along with care and installation instructions. Warranty coverage depends on proper installation and maintenance per the published guidelines.
